Reflecting on a Year of Challenges and Change for Us All and How That’s Shaped My Outlook for 2021

I hope this post finds you in good health and with a renewed vision for 2021. It goes without saying that 2020 was an unprecedented year for all of us. I don't know a single person who can say they were unaffected by the events that transpired over the year.

When COVID hit in March and the world changed right before our eyes, I experienced some of the same emotions that the majority of us felt—uncertainty, doubt, fear, etc. I wasn't sure what was going to happen and if I was going to be allowed to continue working. Should real estate be deemed an essential business or should everyone be required to stay put? It was something I struggled with at first despite the State of Illinois deeming real estate as an essential business. Why should I have the opportunity to work while others can't was a thought that circled through my head at times.

I quickly realized though just how essential and important home really is. Despite living through a pandemic, change still happens, and for some, moving was a necessity this year. Sometimes for the good—people realizing they desperately need more space and were able to upsize at the same cost with low interest rates; some for a job relocation, and some as a result of unfortunate family situations that required an immediate move or a downsize.

I feel so thankful to have a career where I can help people realize their vision for home and life. To know that you've helped someone get to that next chapter in their lives is so rewarding. In 2020, I believe that people have not only realized their vision for home, but also their vision for the community that comes with it. Despite being isolated at home, the sense of community seems stronger than ever. People reaching out to help those in need during these difficult times has been evermore apparent than I can remember. If I can take a positive out of this year, it's that sense of camaraderie that brings us all together in support even when we can't physically be together. That's what finding a true home is all about.

To those who have experienced loss and heartbreak in 2020, my heart goes out to you and I hope the new year brings a restored outlook in your life.
